PHOTOGRAPHER AND GRIEF TENDER

With over a decade of experience, Lehua uses film and digital cameras to document the markers of life. She photographs events that bring deep joy and connection and also moments of loss, deserving of documentation— and of course, all of life that happens in between.

From an early age, Lehua was an observer— curious by nature and surrounded by the beauty of growing up in Hawai’i. Although curiosity and beauty are powerful forces, Lehua attributes her keen sense of awareness to growing up with Kekoa, her younger brother with disabilities, where observation was born out of necessity.

As Lehua tended to his care, early exchanges with compassion, awareness, grief and delight were plentiful. These experiences shaped the way she approaches the world— seeing beauty in often overlooked spaces, relishing in the joy of celebrating being here and now, all while recognizing pain and being able to keep gaze.

Lehua calls both Los Angeles and Hawaii, home. She lives with her partner David, their daughter Liv and rescue pup Maps.
