These two get married next month and I can't wait! For their engagement session we went up into the mountains and were surrounded by giant trees, quiet spaces and a breathtaking view of the island with the shared company of low clouds. Aaron and Janell have been together for years, but their excitement for one another was so sweet to observe. I'm looking forward to being a part of their big day, surrounded by family and celebration!
A few of my favorite shots from a shoot we did months ago on the North Shore of Oahu. We didn't have time to do a day after session, so we opted for a "day after session" a few months later the next time I was in town. Don't these make you want to skip work and book the next plane to Honolulu? It sure does for me. It's true what they say, the older you become the more you appreciate where you came from. It's obvious my love for Hawaii grows each year, isn't it?
Thank you to Chris and Mel for traipsing through the red dirt with me, I had a wonderful time. I'm looking forward to being in Hawaii at the end of the month to shoot Chris' brother's wedding at the same location I was married at! I think it's safe to say it will be an emotional day for me :)
If you'd like to see more photos, this session was featured on Style Me Pretty a couple months ago, enjoy!
Jesse & Ed - - - they're stunning right?!? I gave them the least amount of direction I've ever given couples and they were so great! Jesse is also a photographer so she knows how it is. ;) We traipsed around the LA river, went to a park in Pasadena and spent time admiring bridges. Perfect shoot, perfect hair, perfect outfits.... They were so natural with one another, it really made my job easy. So excited to see the magic that their wedding will be! If only a labradoodle would stop by again, he made our day!
As the weather starts to heat up here in LA I look back on this engagement session with envy. This was my first time shooting in colder weather, I'm from Hawaii and haven't been in/near/around snow too many times in my life so this was definitely a treat for me! And there were dogs. You all should know how I feel about dogs (love love love).
John and Alex found this little cabin to shoot their engagement photos and it was an idyllic setting to say the least. John is a fellow designer at Biola and I've really enjoyed getting to know him this past year, he's very down to earth, clever and hilarious (which is great when you're working next to someone 8 hours a day!) And if that wasn't enough, Alex is also a talented designer and a baker of sweet treats. I'm so looking forward to their wedding and can't wait to see all the little details they've been working on to make their day superbly unique. I'm so lucky to be a part of it all :)
P.S. The black & white photo is my fav!
It's been a pleasure working with Tanya and Morten thus far and I'm so excited for their wedding in just a few short months - it is going to be amazing - I cannot wait to see how everything comes together. It's been a great experience from the beginning, meeting up at the Alcove for brunch (two of my favorite things) to talk about photos (three of my favorite things), although much of our conversation revolved around our food obsession and my upcoming trip to Austin, where Morten is from and different places to check out in LA.
For their engagement session we went to the Santa Monica Pier, ate some cotton candy, explored under the pier and rode the ferris wheel. I loved watching them interact together through the camera. It's easy to tell how in love they are and how their playfulness "plays" a big role in their relationship. I'm not sure how to explain it exactly, but they felt almost effortless with one another, comfortable. It was a pleasure to be a part of. Much love to you both, can't wait for the big day!
These two are getting married on 11 - 11 - 11, their one year anniversary, their favorite number, my favorite number and on Pepero day! So excited for next week you two :)
It's hard to come up with the right things to say about Bethany. She's not one of those people, who remind me of someone else. She is truly one-of-a kind. Her wit, her smile, her almost painfully tight bear hugs, her ability to be honest and caring at the same time - - - she loves to learn, loves to engage, loves to dig deep into the why of things. I was lucky to live with her for a year in Silver Lake as we embarked on this "being an adult" journey fresh out of undergrad. We discovered LA together, how people can sit on porches for hours, Trader Joes pre-made salads and how not having a washer and dryer unit really does lessen the quality of life. I know all these fragments don't quite sum up how much I admire and love Bethany - - - but she is quite frankly, a gem to this earth, and I'm so happy to celebrate this union in the month of May.
Gina emailed me a few months ago all the way from Texas! She grew up in Orange County but she and her fiance, Charlton, now live in Houston and are getting married in Newport. We decided to shoot in Laguna and visited the church they'll be getting married at in a few short months :) Gina has a grace about her in person that's so beautiful that I think translated quite nicely in the camera --- needless to say, I really loved shooting this couple. I loved their gentle interactions with each other and how they connected with ease. Becky Trejo from Eighty Eighty-Four came and shot along with me, so a couple of the shots below are from her (and she is awesome)! I think it's a nice idea for couples to meet the second shooter prior to the big day if it's possible, the more comfortable, the better. Can't wait for y'alls wedding!
I am ready for you weekend, ready with open arms.
I'm off to shoot a wedding with one of my best friends who moved to Northern California almost two months ago. I haven't seen her since my wedding, which was two months from today! I'm excited for the weekend, can you tell? :)
Here's shot from a recent shoot with a couple I had been emailing with for months from Houston, TX. I'll post more next week but this photo just felt like Friday to me. Enjoy the weekend!
Mindy = gem.
Seriously, this woman can do it all - - - sing, dance, perform, paint, video art, etc, etc - - - seriously, SO gifted. We met during our first year seminar at Biola and have been friends ever since. Mindy has been a source of sweetness during my years in California and I couldn't be more happy for you both. Much much love to you as you begin this new life together.
P.S. Don't ask about locations, these are their little secrets :)
P.S.S. Is Mindy a total babe or what?!? Good catch Albert ;)
This was a little "mini" engagement session I did in downtown Los Angeles with the now, Bradley and Bethany Clarke. We snapped a few shots and explored a bit of downtown. Many quiet moments --- I loved the irony of finding these empty spaces in the middle of Los Angeles.
Debbie. I've known Debbie for 5 years now. We've spent many nights talking, eating asain food, watching movies, working on our senior shows, doing chapel make-ups, and now she is moving back to Taiwan. She wanted to get some pictures with her beau, Raeder before she moves across the seas. They've had a long-distance relationship for a couple years now and are going strong! I wish you the best Debbie as you start your new journey miles away! I'll never forget your laughter and the joy you've brought me -- love you. Happy weekend one and all :)
P.S. "A Hui Ho" is Hawaiian for, "until we meet again" :)
This Sunday my roommate of four years is getting married! Here are some engagement pictures I took a few weeks ago of she and her fiance, Mark. I love you my beautiful friend, congratulations King & Queen :)
So let me share the cutest girl in Southern California with you all. Her name is Emily. We've been friends for a while now and I'm so excited to shoot her wedding soon! She and her fiance Jordan are getting married at the end of the month - - - it's been 6 years in the works. WOW. Thanks for being thee cutest couple you two, seriously, you guys are adorable and I had a blast exploring LA with you both!
P.S. Dear Griffith Park, my heart continues to grow fonder of you every time I visit. Yours Truly, Lehua.
OH my word. I have not updated in so long! I've been a busy bee lately, with the holidays and work. I've been meaning to post this shoot and now is the time! Cecilia contacted me about a month ago for an engagement shoot along with a family portrait session just in time for the holidays. She really wanted to have a vintage inspired shoot which was definitely a treat for me since I love the marriage of vintage and modern. Everyone looked so cute and Cecilia, you looked GORGEOUS - - - pin-up perfection! The baby had the most darling newspaper boy-esque outfit and Fernie's suit from the army tied it all together! You guys definitely win the style award of the year :) Enjoy!
Renee was a classmate of mine and is part of the art department at Biola University - where we met Freshmen year. She is an amazing painter & artist and actually has her senior thesis coming up - - -
Show opening: Fear and Trembling on Monday, November 30th (showing through December 4th)
Biola Art Gallery @ 7pm - 9pm
Featuring drawings on wood panels - Attend if you can, it will be well worth it, promise ;)!
So, along with finishing her senior thesis, Renee is getting married to Drew on January 9th!! We took some engagements photos in Old Towne Pasadena which will be their new neighborhood once they are married. We spent the afternoon walking all over Old Towne talking about the wedding plans, art school, JCrew, visiting Dots (yum), the library, and took many little detours along the way. Renee & Drew, thank you for an afternoon of laughter - - - I can't wait to shoot your wedding!
One of my closest friends from college is getting married in January! & I get to be a bridesmaid!! I shot their engagement photos . . . (a while ago) but thought I'd share them anyway. We took a walk down the street from my apartment and then drove to a bookstore in Echo Park. We had tons of fun finding backgrounds that were "them" and exploring the neighborhood and just hanging out, Enjoy!
